To prove that you are legally divorced to the Ontario Government there is a simple procedure to follow. This takes the assistance of a lawyer from Ontario and can cost up to $250.00 Canadian ($200.00 U.S.), and takes between 2 and 4 weeks.  

The paperwork with the lawyer is done by correspondence through the mail or by fax.  You simply mail your final divorce decree to the lawyer.  They write a letter to our government stating you are legally divorced.  The government sends you a letter that you take with you to city hall to buy the license.  The lawyer returns your divorce papers.
